Gluten-Free Vegan Strawberry Banana and Maca Protein Smoothie
Here's why this recipe works - my top 3 reasons:
- Customizable with your favorite plant-based protein
- Ready in less than 5 minutes
- Made with only 5 clean, real food ingredients
Customizable With Your Favorite Plant-Based Protein
I used my favorite plant-based protein powder, Epic Organic Plant Protein - Vanilla Lucuma, which is organic, raw, vegan + gluten-free.
However, there are several other options you can use, including single-ingredient protein powders:
- Hemp Protein - made with 100% hemp protein and is Medical Medium compliant.
- Pumpkin Seed Protein - made with 100% pumpkin seeds and is also Medical Medium compliant.
- Your favorite plant-based protein - feel free to use your favorite brand or omit protein powder altogether if you prefer.

Simply add all the ingredients to a Vitamix and in less than 5 minutes, it's ready to go!

This is a simple vegan smoothie recipe that only needs a handful of ingredients to make.

How To Make Strawberry Banana and Maca Protein Smoothie: Step-by-Step Instructions
Here is how to make this recipe and I'll show you with step-by-step instructions below.
Step 1: Add All Ingredients To A Vitamix
Firstly, add all the ingredients for the recipe to a Vitamix.
There are two options for the fruit - using fresh or frozen.
- Fresh Fruit: If you use fresh fruit, you may want to add 5-6 ice cubes to make it thicker and give it a frosty texture.
- Frozen Fruit: If you use frozen fruit, it is not necessary to use ice cubes and you may need to add a little extra milk to make it drinkable. Otherwise, it will be nice and thick and great as a smoothie bowl!
Step 2: Store or Transport Your Smoothie
Lastly, if you will be storing your smoothie or taking it with you on-the-go, make sure you use a BPA-free container.
These BPA-free Blender Bottles are great because they have a stainless steel ball on the inside to help mix everything together before drinking.
Expert Tips + Ingredient Substitutions For Strawberry Banana and Maca Protein Smoothie
Here are some expert tips to make this recipe perfectly:
Strawberries + Banana. If you use fresh fruit and like your smoothies a little thicker and frosty, you can add 5-6 ice cubes. If you use frozen fruit, the smoothie will be extra thick and you may need to add a little more almond milk to make it drinkable.
Homemade Almond Milk. I like to use homemade almond milk, however, feel free to use your favorite non-dairy milk. Another great option is to use Joi Organic Almond Milk made with 100% organic almonds.
Protein Powder. My favorite plant-based protein powder is Epic Organic Plant Protein - Vanilla Lucuma. However, you can omit the protein powder in this recipe, substitute with organic hemp protein or organic pumpkin seed protein or use your favorite brand.
Maca Powder. I added this ingredient to increase the nutritional profile, however, it can be omitted.
Additional Natural Sweetener. I find that the banana and strawberries give the smoothie just the right amount of natural sweetness. However, if you'd like your smoothie a little sweeter, just add 1-2 organic Medjool dates (pitted).
Optional Garnish. I garnished the top of the smoothie with organic spirulina crunchies to give it extra superfood benefits.

How many people do your smoothies feed? You don't seem to include a serving size.
Thanks!
Karielyn says
Hi Zosia! Sorry about that! For this particular smoothie, it should make (1) large smoothie.
Thanks for the question and I hope you enjoy it 😉
