This Kale and Banana Green Smoothie is the very first green smoothie I ever made...and even the first in my Vitamix!
Kale and Banana Green Smoothie
Here's why this recipe works - my top 3 reasons:
- It's kid-friendly
- Ready in under 5 minutes
- Made with only 3 clean, real food ingredients
It's Kid-Friendly
I started making these almost 6 years ago for my first son and even today, he still asks for his "green smoothie".
The great thing about this is he's not a big fan of kale.
The natural sweetness of the banana will offset any detectable taste of kale making it kid-friendly!
Ready In Under 5 Minutes
Who doesn't love a quick breakfast or mid-day snack that takes less than 5 minutes to make?
I know I do!
Although I use my Vitamix to make this smoothie, it's not mandatory.
Since there are no nuts or hard to blend ingredients, you can make this recipe with a regular blender.
Made With Only 3 Clean Real Food Ingredients
This smoothie is made with only three simple ingredients, like banana, kale and homemade almond milk.
You can feel good about making this plant-based smoothie for you or your family because it's vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, paleo-friendly, contains no refined sugar and is Medical Medium compliant.
How To Make Kale and Banana Green Smoothie: Step-by-Step Instructions
Here is how to make this recipe and I'll show you with step-by-step instructions below.
Step 1: Add All Ingredients To A Blender
Add all ingredients to a Vitamix and blend until everything is well blended.
A Vitamix will give you the best texture, especially when breaking down the kale.
However, you can also use a regular blender to make this recipe since it doesn't contain nuts or hard to blend ingredients.
Step 2: Taste And Adjust The Sweetener
Since the sizes of bananas vary, you may find that one banana is not enough to get the sweetness you prefer.
Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness to your preference. Some examples are:
- Add 1 extra banana
- Add 1-2 Medjool dates (pitted)
Expert Tips + Ingredient Substitutions for Kale and Banana Smoothie
Almond Milk. I use homemade almond milk to make mine, but you can also use your favorite non-dairy milk. Another great option is to use Joi Organic Almond Milk made with 100% organic almonds.
Banana. I find it is perfectly sweet with just one banana, and since the sizes of bananas vary, feel free to add an extra banana or 1-2 Medjool dates if you prefer.
Kale. There are several different types of kale you can use. For example, curly kale or lacianto kale and either will work fine. Just make sure to "de-stem" it (remove the thick stem in the middle of the leaf) before adding it to the blender.
