You will need to let it sit out at room temperature or sit it in a bowl of warm water to soften it (due to the coconut oil) before using.
Notes
Tahini. You can make homemade tahini with raw, organic sesame seeds and a food processor…it’s so easy to do and cheaper than buying store-bought!Maple Syrup. I used (3) tablespoons of maple syrup because I didn’t want the spread to be overly sweet, but feel free to adjust the amount to your preference.Coconut Oil. This ingredient was used to give the spread a thicker consistency. If you don’t like the taste or smell of coconut oil, use organic refined coconut oil which has zero coconut taste or smell.Matcha Powder. There are two different types of matcha you can use – “culinary grade” and “ceremonial grade”.
Culinary Grade: Used mostly for smoothies and in baking. It can have a somewhat gritty taste and texture.
Ceremonial Grade: Higher quality matcha. Because only the best and youngest leave are used, it has the smoothest taste and texture.
Storage: You will need to store the tahini in a BPA-free air-tight container, like a glass mason jar, in the refrigerator. The spread may become hard – due to the coconut oil. However, there are a couple of options to easily make it spreadable before using:
Leave it out on your countertop at room temperature
Put it in a bowl of warm water to soften it up
Whichever method you use, make sure to stir it well before enjoying it.Serving Size: This recipe will make approximately 3/4 cups. Nutritional information is calculated for (1) tablespoon which is (1) serving.
